Iron Art Deco Mirror Iron Art Deco Mirror

Manner of Edgar Brandt

Iron Art Deco Mirror
France, c. 1925–30

A wall-mounted Art Deco mirror of fan form, the beveled glass plate — beautifully foxed with age — set within a V-shaped hammered wrought iron frame. The lower rail terminates at each end in cylindrical finials from which gilded silk tassels are suspended on twisted cord, the same cord looping to a single hanging point above. At the center of the frame, a cast iron relief of stylized roses and poppies in full bloom, typical of the floral vocabulary of French Art Deco ironwork. The oxidized patina throughout gives the piece a rich, velvety depth.
