Edvin OLLERS (1888–1959)
Glass Vase for Elme Glasbruk
Sweden, c. 1920s–early 1930s
A striking pressed glass vase of generous scale, designed by Edvin Ollers and produced at Elme Glasbruk. Executed in smoky grey-blue glass, the piece features a wide, flared rim and a richly ornamented body adorned with swirling foliate and floral relief motifs. The decorative pattern — deeply molded and crisply defined — creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, emphasizing both the translucency and sculptural depth of the material.
Edvin Ollers (Swedish, 1888–1959) was a painter, illustrator, and designer associated with Sweden's early 20th-century decorative arts movement. Though primarily known for his work in painting and graphic arts, Ollers also contributed designs for glass during the 1920s and 1930s. His collaboration with Elme Glasbruk — a smaller but innovative Swedish glassworks active in the early 20th century — resulted in pieces that combined artistic sensibility with industrial production techniques such as pressed glass. His designs often display a sensitivity to natural forms, rendered in stylized, rhythmic patterns.
Beautiful condition. Minor surface wear consistent with age, including light scratches. No major chips or cracks observed; the relief decoration remains sharp and well-preserved.
