In the manner of Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann

Art Deco Tub Chair
France, c. 1925–1935

A refined small tub chair in the manner of Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, France's preeminent Art Deco furniture maker. The continuous horseshoe-shaped back rail is veneered in Macassar ebony with a high lacquer finish, sweeping elegantly around the deeply upholstered seat and back. The four tapered legs — saber-form to the rear, subtly splayed to the front — terminate in small square cream lacquered sabots. Newly reupholstered in piped ivory raw silk; the ebony veneer has been refreshed and oiled. No maker's mark or label.

Condition

Excellent restored condition. Newly reupholstered in piped ivory raw silk with the ebony veneer refreshed and oiled. Some minor imperfections in the veneer and signs of age around the rim of the wood.
